Update… Zen

Posted in General by john
The ultimate authority must always rest with the individual’s own reason and critical analysis.

Well its been a pretty quiet week and I don’t have much to report. The election was as expected the conservatives won a minority, promises won’t be kept, the usual. My website is constantly changing but not moving forward.

I need to find a name/phrase for my banner at the top of the page, unless I go with a photo…

I also ran across the zen button which I thought may interest some of you, or I am linking to it so that I have it in the future.

Election

Posted in Politics by john
Whats the forcast in hell?

(this post has also been published in my diary on progressive bloggers)

So tomorrow is the big election. This time tomorrow night I will be living in a conservative riding yet again. The only good news is that since they changed the riding area to include part of Edmonton the conservative candidate will only win by 10,000 rather then 17,000 votes. What can you do when you live in the suburbs. My vote will still go to the NDP. I know I have stayed quiet during this election and that was because I like to wait for the whole picture before coming to any conclusions.

I do have a complaint though, it goes to Peter Mansbridge about his lack of follow-up on the questions Harper was answering. Mansbridge did a great job making sure Martin or Layton gave actual answers rather then giving the same party lines. However once it was Harpers turn he let him keep saying the same stuff over and over. I dunno I was hoping that we would finally be able to hear some informative answers from Harper.

I hope we end up with only a conservative minority, but I am doubtful we will be that lucky. I think I may be drowning my sorrows with a few beers tomorrow evening.

Again

Update continued…

Well I know I said I was going to finish this later the other night, but then work got busy and I forgot about it until last night. As you can see I finally got to watch the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy last night, almost a full year after having read the book. I did enjoy it quite a bit but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Maybe the sequels will be better. I also watched Serenity today and found it quite dull. It had a relatively weak plot and was very plain jane. Work has gone well, we did some funky painting on the light covers to give areas of the centre a different feel and it looks pretty good. I have also got a new job. I did the first part of my training this week at ICE and will be starting in a grouphome as soon as my checks come back. It seems like a good organization to start off in. Well I think that is all for now. I will probably be posting monday night after our country does the unthinkable and votes in a conservative majority. It makes me shudder just thinking about it. Any socialist countries looking for a new 20something?

Fish

Posted in General by john

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

The world’s about to be destroyed
There’s no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

Happenings

Update on my happenings

Well this new year has been fairly good so far. I have found quite a few prospective employers and I have already heard back from two of them. I had my first interview this week and I have a position, just not sure which of the three it is. My next interview is next week and I hope that it goes well because I feel I can find a better position then the first one. The youth centre has been taking up a fair bit of time and I am happy to be working more hours there, I only wish we were getting more youth. We are planning a bunch of new activities such as olympic themed nights, and an olympic dance. We are also working on a YC unplugged night, symbolic of the old coffeehouses we had in highschool. I must be getting back to work so I will finish the update later tonight.
